Pin files to your agent's menu

Agents often keep a few files people come back to: a dashboard the agent updates, a weekly report, a price list. Bookmarks put those files one tap away. When your agent has bookmarks, the chat header shows a bookmark button. On desktop and web it opens a menu, and on mobile a sheet. Picking an entry opens the file in the workspace viewer.

Bookmarks are yours as the agent's developer. People using the agent see them but can't change them, and the agent can't edit them either.

Add bookmarks

Create .genie/bookmarks.json in your agent's config directory, next to .agent_instructions.md:

Each entry needs a label, the text shown in the menu, and a path relative to the agent's directory. The menu keeps the order of the file. An entry without a label or path, with a path that isn't clean and relative (like /etc/x, ../x or shared/./x), or past the first 50 is left out of the menu without a message.

Check the file before you deploy. mutiro agent dev check <config-dir> reports every entry the platform would leave out, and why. Bookmarks open files, so it also reports an entry nobody's menu would show and a shared/ path that is a folder. It warns about duplicate labels and shared/ files missing from your directory, and says who sees each bookmark.

Deploy it like the rest of your agent's configuration:

Bookmarks aren't urgent, so the apps remember the menu for a while. A change reaches people within about half an hour. To see it sooner, wait at least a minute after deploying, then restart the app or reload the web page.

Who sees which bookmark

A bookmark shows only to people who can already open its file:

• Files under shared/ show to everyone who talks to the agent. Use this for dashboards and material meant for all users.
• Files at the top of the agent's directory, like ops.html above, show to you and the agent's other developers.
• Files under users/<username>/ show only in that user's menu. You and the agent's other developers can still open those files from the workspace, but the bookmark doesn't appear in your menu.

A bookmark whose file doesn't exist yet stays in the menu, and opening it reports that the file isn't available. It starts working as soon as the agent writes the file.
